Massive 300 m Manhattan loft-style set in a wooden chalet, the Heinz Julen Loft is without a doubt the most beautiful property in Zermatt. It blends acres of glass, steel, textured concrete and wood in a complex symphony of fusion architecture created by local star artist Heinz Julen.
The Loft was the private residence of Heinz, where he held a variety of rock-star events. Both floors of the Loft are serviced by a private elevator. The main loft living area has a suspended and lit table, which can be lifted and lowered from the coffee table to the dining table and up to the ceiling, providing a large party room.
You can play a baby grand Steinway piano in one corner, and in another, you can sink into a large couch and look at the spectacular view of the village and the crackling fireplace on the glass wall at the same time. Around you: two chairs, a jack-in-the-box armchair, a wall of sculpture, and a signature Heinz Julen chandelier. In reality, all the furniture you're looking for in the Loft.
Quite airy in feel, thanks to the heavy use of glass, the Loft has a unique bird's eye view of the village and the Mischabel mountains. The sense of freedom, light and closeness to nature that the Loft offers is unparalleled: there are no boundaries between nature outside and home space inside-everything is open and accessible.
On the two sides overlooking the village, the walls consist of floor-to-ceiling glass, with French windows 6 meters high leading to a wide terrace. (There is a white electrical outer curtain that can wind itself around all that glass if needed). The ceiling is supported by seven columns, while the glass walls have a fireplace and three alcoves.
A metal staircase leads to the mezzanine, which has another chill-out sofa with a TV; a free-standing Jacuzzi bath, a comfortable dining alcove, a galley kitchen (with cupboard handles made of bent soup spoons), a cantilevered bar and a guest bathroom. When you step on this floor, you will find that the floating feeling it produces is due to the fact that it is made entirely of opaque glass with a faint inset glow.
