Ski Resort Opening Dates Winter 2021/22

When do the ski resorts open in the Alps ?

Although snowfall in November and early December is rarely as high as it is from January to March, it may still be a great time to enjoy a luxury ski vacation. Not only are the slopes uncrowded, but you will also discover exceptional value for money on chalet rentals, which usually skyrocket during the peak Christmas and New Year periods. If this sounds intriguing, keep reading to learn what the ski resort opening dates 2021/22 are and start dusting off your ski boots…

Opening dates in the Swiss ski resorts

Verbier, which is part of Switzerland’s largest ski region, is one of the greatest destinations for early season skiing. Verbier is available on weekends throughout November, depending on snow conditions, with the main season beginning on December 4/5, 2021. Early December is an excellent time to enjoy a luxury ski vacation in Verbier, with calmer slopes, restaurants, and pubs, and less time spent queuing at ski lifts. We offer a selection of lovely chalets available for rent in Verbier beginning the first weekend of December, ready for your arrival.

    Zermatt ski lift

Zermatt, home to Switzerland’s highest ski region, is ideal for early season skiing. With the glacier available for skiing all year, you’ll have plenty of time on the slopes. Snow permitting, the larger ski area is scheduled to open on December 4, 2021, providing you access to 360 km of slopes spread across three distinct ski regions. It is also possible to cross the border into the Breuil-Cervinia ski area, providing you even more alternatives for logging miles. Chalet rentals in Zermatt are available from the final weekend of November, but there will be a bigger selection of chalets available beginning the week of December 4th.

Opening dates in the Frech ski resorts

The Three Valleys welcomes you in early from the 4th December, and while it is not the highest resort in terms of altitude, slope aspect also plays an important part. This is why the Courchevel Valley’s north-facing slopes are ideal for early-season skiing. Courchevel 1850 is the highest of the towns, and while it is also the costliest, you may find some fantastic chalet alternatives at far reduced prices than at other times of the year.

While the Tignes Glacier will open on October 16th, the remainder of the Tignes & Val d’Isère ski area will not open until November 27th. They provide 300 km of courses and 1900m of vertical, with pistes for skiers of all abilities. With an altitude of 3,456m, you may be quite certain of enough snow cover. The bulk of our chalets in Val d’Isère are available to rent beginning November 28th, however there are a handful that may be booked beginning November 27th if you couldn’t wait another day to go back on the slopes!

Megève skiing is all about exploring soft, soothing slopes that are ideal for novices. Those searching for wide-open landscapes will like the Cote 2000 mountains, which have top-quality snow cover due to the slopes’ optimal sun exposure. Fans of freestyle will be ecstatic about the specific location where they can safely do jumps on a massive air bag. Yes, Megève is a skier’s paradise and is eager to greet you. The resort will open on the 18th December 2021.

Opening dates in the AUSTRIAN ski resorts

Despite not being one of the highest resorts in the Alps, Lech is known for its remarkable snowfall, with season averages of well over seven meters. Lech is part of Austria’s largest ski area, the Arlberg, and offers access to 305 kilometers of downhill skiing as well as considerable off-piste terrain. Aside from skiing, there are a variety of other winter sports to enjoy, such as horse-drawn sleigh rides, winter hiking, and ice skating, which are especially enjoyable early in the season when the resort is less crowded. The resort will open on the 3rd December.
