Summer activities and sports in Zermatt for all ages:
Train to Gornergrat
The views from the sunlit observation platform at Gornergrat are just as beautiful in the summer as they are in the winter (3,089m). A 33-minute journey on Europe’s highest open-air cog train from Zermatt station leads you up the mountain to one of the world’s best views. The panorama includes 29 mountains above 4,000 meters in elevation, spanning from the Monte Rosa massif to the Gorner Glacier, the Alps’ second biggest glacier.
Mountain Lake Swimming
There are a dozen tiny lakes in the mountains surrounding Zermatt. The Leisee lake (near Sunnegga) and the Grunsee lake are ideal for swimming.
Skiing and snowboarding
Summer and fall skiing is substantial, with 1 cable car, 6 ski lifts, and 1 six-man chair covering 21km of pistes and 1,000 vertical meters of natural snow. A fantastic fun park featuring a half-pipe, several kickers, boxes, and various jibs is also available.
Downhill Trailscooter
Take one of these scooters with large soft tyres up to Schwarzsee and race back down the mountain paths to the valley as many times as you can in one day. The ultimate adrenaline seeker’s task.
Tandem paragliding
Tandem flights with a trained pilot take between 10 and 45 minutes and provide amazing sights and sensations. From 3 to 96 years old.
Forest tree top fun park
A large fun park with long fly wires and a variety of tree top challenges is available. The Funventure offers routes of different complexity may be chosen, beginning with youngsters aged four and up and up to professionals, all with the safety of a harness and fixed line.
Beach volley ball
The tournament grade sand pitch is located in the town center.
Snowtubing
Fun in the snow for both adults and children! The new snow tubing slope at Klein Matterhorn is great fun for the whole family! Grab your free snow tube and go off!
Kick-Bike Rental in Sunnegga
Rent the popular kick-bike scooters, complete with helmet, at the Sunnegga valley station and then zoom down to Zermatt via Tuftern. A stop at one of the appealing restaurants along the road is practically mandatory. After your thrilling downhill ride, you may return the kick-bikes to the bottom station. You may also stop at Ried or Othmar’s Hütte for a refreshing (non-alcoholic) drink or ice cream before continuing your journey.
Hiking
Zermatt is a hiker’s paradise, with magnificent scenery and 400 kilometers of signposted hiking and mountain routes. In the summer, there are numerous wonderful themed paths to explore, such as the “5 Lakes Walk,” the “Botanical Trail,” the “Marmot Trail,” and the difficult “Path to Freedom.” Zermatt boasts a rich flora and fauna, as well as a variety of species to see, including whistling marmots, chamois, and ibex. If you’re lucky, you could spot a golden eagle.

Trail running
Trail running at the base of the Matterhorn is an unforgettable experience. In the spring, there is still snow on the ground; in the summer, some of the paths are above 3,400 meters, making them ideal for cooling down; and in the autumn, the golden woods are breathtaking.
Waterski Lake Scalisee
The waterski lift (Rixen Little Bro 2.0) is 109 meters long. This project places a high value on sustainability. The electric elevator is both silent and ecologically beneficial, and it will be entirely removed in the autumn. There are water skis, wakeboards, and swimming aids available.
Tennis
Throughout the village of Zermatt, there are several outdoor courts.
Fly fishing for rainbow trout and arctic char
For a price that includes a permit, rental, and casting lessons on a mountain lake near Blauherd. By agreement. Fishing in the Alps is a once-in-a-lifetime experience because it is rarely permitted. In Zermatt, you may learn or practice fly fishing for mountain trout in an Alpine lake (throwing the line with a flick of the rod).

Golf
Tasch, a nearby village, offers a magnificent Scottish-designed nine-hole par 36 course that straddles the Vispa river. You may also grab your skis and go to Italy to play a game at the 18-hole par-69 Golf Club Cervino in Cervinia.
Clay Pigeon Shooting
One of Zermatt’s newest sports, teams and/or individuals compete by shooting infrared rays at reusable clays with a genuine shotgun that has been deactivated and modified. The clays have receptors and are burned from high-quality traps. The weapons contain a microchip, are radio-linked to the scoreboard, and tiny lights on the barrel show if your shot was successful. Each of the three rounds, which comprise of different tasks, lasts around 15 minutes.

Children's Playgrounds
Three separate playgrounds with swings, slides, and other amenities can be found around Zermatt, with one located near the Leisee lake at the top of the Sunnegga Express.
Football and mini-football
A 45 x 80m field is available for rent, as well as fenced-off tiny pitches 24 x 15m suited for a variety of foot- and basket-ball sports.
Experiences:
Sunrise Rothorn – Take advantage of the opportunity to observe the colors of first light on the Rothorn’s summit. The package includes a one-way or return ticket from Zermatt to Rothorn as well as a substantial alpine breakfast buffet at the charming Rothorn restaurant.
Ascending the Breithorn — For an introduction to mountaineering and the opportunity to summit a 4000m peak, the Breithorn is an excellent choice. After taking the cable car from Zermatt to Klein Matterhorn, trek for a few hours to the Breithorn peak for excellent views. Suitable for experienced hikers who have never before attempted a glacier ascent. Trips may be arranged via Zermatters mountain guides, with costs beginning at CHF 190 per person.
Swimming and Wellness – There are a number of public swimming pools with sunbathing grounds outside. Glacier Palace – At 3,880 meters above sea level, near the Klein Matterhorn, walk 15 meters into the ice to experience a glacier from the interior.
The Gornergorge Canyon Walk – Experience the deep, thunderous river gorge canyon without climbing skills in about 20 minutes from the hamlet.
Flights by Helicopter for Sightseeing – Experience a bird’s-eye perspective of the three most renowned 4,000-meter peaks that encircle Zermatt: the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and Weisshorn. Flights last 20 minutes in helicopters that accommodate five people.
Sleep in a mountain hut – Spend the night in one of the 15 easily accessible mountain huts strewn across Zermatt’s slopes, which range from the modest Alpinist’s cabin to a 5 star luxury hotel.
Culture:
Following in the footsteps of the Alpine dairyman – Walk to Staffelalp and watch and taste how mountain cheese is created at Zermatt’s highest dairy.
Matterhorn Museum — An interactive, themed museum that depicts Zermatt’s culture and history. View the rope that snapped when half of Whymper’s crew plummeted from the Matterhorn following their first climb, among many other intriguing artifacts.
Zermatt goes back to 1280 and has a guided village history tour. Book a trip with a guide who will explain and show you the island’s rich history, including how the British paved the way to its discovery in the nineteenth century.
Botanical Trail — A half-day trek up beyond Edelweiss to Trift, with notice boards detailing the local Alpine plants. Keep a watch out for the rambunctious Marmottes and the roving Chamois.
